A friend of ours and Registered Dietitian, Regan Miller Jones, writes a food, recipe, nutrition blog – The Professional Palate. Today I saw her latest post – a healthy holiday recipe for Pumpkin Bread.
The recipe looks really yummy! But the main reason I love this blog post has more to do with Regan’s explanation of the recipe. She says:
“I believe that the holidays can (and should) include some special indulgences. I also believe that we tend to use that notion to make an excuse for a month (or more) of excess eating.”
Regan then goes on to tell about one of her favorite holiday indulgences – candied apples.
So, I guess my point is this – we all know the importance of eating well, we also know the importance of the occasional indulgence in something you truly enjoy (important words here: “occasional” and “truly enjoy”).
And now I’m curious – what is your favorite holiday indulgence that’s actually worth the indulgence? Tell us in the comments below
I’ll go ahead and confess – I actually have two – my Grandmother’s homemade dressing and her chocolate pecan pie, warmed with a scoop of icecream. I think I need to start running now….
