According to a recent US News & World Report article, recent research suggests that regular exercise can prevent migraines just as well as drugs or relaxation techniques.

Swedish researchers followed 91 migraine patients over 3 months, separating the patients into 3 groups:  one group was prescribed 40 minutes of exercise, 3 days per week; the second group was prescribed the drug topiramate; and the third group was prescribed meditation techniques.  “Our conclusion is that exercise can act as an alternative to relaxations and [the migraine drug] topiramate when it comes to preventing migraines, and is particularly appropriate for patients who are unwilling or unable to take preventative medicines,” stated author Emma Varkey.
